In partnership with Oman Paralympics Committee & Sponsored by BP Oman
Oman Sail together with Oman Paralympics Committee (sponsored by BP Oman), launched the “SailFree” programme. The programme — which is a para sailing programme targeting physically impaired individuals — is the first of its kind in the Sultanate.
All precautionary and preventive measures to limit the spread of Coronavirus will be applied.
Programme aims:
- Introduce candidates to the sport of para sailing.
- Build skillsets to achieve high levels of expertise in para sailing.
- Develop physical and innovation skills.
- Train participants to overcome challenges effectively.
- Create a supportive environment for athletes with disabilities.
Programme outcomes:
To develop an Omani national para sailing team representing the Sultanate in international tournaments.
Stage one:
- 105 participants selected.
- Leadership programmes delivered in 3 batches.
- 50 candidates move to second stage.
Stage two:
- 50 candidates complete second phase.
- Delivered in Al Mouj (Muscat) & Mussanah.
- 30 candidates selected for stage three.
Stage three:
- 30 candidates complete fourth phase.
- 12 participants selected for stage four.
Stage four:
- 12 participants join national para sailing team.
- Weekly training sessions provided.
